This is the first novel of a promising new British writer, Claire Kilroy. I have classified her as mystery because this is, as stated on the inside cover "A wonderfully unsettling first novel that manages to combine beautiful, poetic prose with the menacing atmosphere of a thriller". I quoted because I couldn't say it better other than to say it is a thriller but its also something like literature. Anna Hunt has lost her memory but she is sure of one thing, that she has stolen a valuable painting and she is in possession of a suitcase of money. She pieces together her memories bit by bit but danger lurks everywhere. She did not steal the painting alone and she is being searched for by sinister forces. How can she protect herself from people she does not know? While on the run she stuggles to regain patches of memory that allow her gradually to know her enemy and the ending is a dramatic and heartstopping conclusion to her story. Girl in the Mirror is alluring. Girl in the Mirror has people in her thrall. As the summer unfolds, Anna learns about the nature of desire. Kel is violent, unpredictable and mesmerizing. The man who rescues Anna from him is helping her piece her past back together. And the conservator is returning Girl in the Mirror back to her original state. By the end of the year, one of them will be dead, one of them will be in exile, and one will have done a terrible thing for love. A wonderfully unsettling first novel that manages to combine beautiful, poetic prose with the menacing atmosphere of a thriller. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
