The first 2/3 of the book dragged. The action of the end, along with the character motivations, seemed almost forced or obviously, deliberately placed just to reach a conclusion. I wasn't invested in the characters, plot, or atmosphere like I was in the first book, Origin. I think the switching POV chapters didn't help with cohesion. It did have some important themes, especially surrounding Sophie's independence and the morality of how the scientists handled the Vitros. ( ) Omigod, if I liked Origin, this is SO MUCH BETTER. It had a unique, compelling plot like Origin (though not the fantastic blending of science and magic), AND EVERYTHING ELSE WAS BETTER. The characters were so much more compelling. I became attached to these characters (Sophie, Jim, and Lux) much more quickly than I did to Pia and Eio (was that his name? I think it was) We got into the action much quicker than in Origin. I recall saying something along the lines of the first 100 pages of Origin being world-building, without much action, but the plot started rolling here much quicker. The romance between Sophie and Jim developed so naturally. I don't remember having any complaints about Pia and Eio, but I don't remember particularly liking them together either. It helps when I'm told the two character knew each other previous to the beginning of the book. Basically, the pacing in Vitro is much better, and that makes for a better story overall. Can't wait to read Kalahari. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
