IMMORTALLY EVER AFTER Angie Fox The hard-won cease-fire between the battling immortals doesn't last long. In the blink of an eye, human surgeon Dr. Petra Robichaud is back on the frontlines, and starring in yet another of the oracle's prophesies. As the only healer who can talk to the dead, Petra doesn't have much choice about her role--even when her breathtaking ex-lover shows up at exactly the wrong time... Petra may have moved on when Commander Galen left her, but she never forgot him--and the passionate moments they shared. Seeing him again is a distraction she really doesn't need with both armies honing new weapons, and wounded all over her M*A*S*H unit. But how can she resist him? It's now or never for the demi-god Galen to become Petra's mate...but with the fate of humanity at stake, will their desire be worth the cost?… (altro)

Good story to wrap up the series, but I thought the proposal felt forced, if only to have tension between Petra, Marc and Galen. Petra and Galen have enough tension without adding to it. But it all worked out for Marc in the end. I thought the baby shower was hilarious. In the first two books in the series, there was drama and anticipation with the war going on. This book really didn't have that much in the way of the war, simply because there had been a truce for a while, so it seemed that the war was an afterthought. The ending was kinda blah, the dragons, the portals and Medusa's baby (not wanting to give a lot of spoilers here). Overall an entertaining series. ( )

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.

Quick & Dirty: Satisfying ending to a cute and sexy series about a doctor trying to find a way to end a millennia-plus long war.

Opening Sentence: I rearranged the best poker hand I’d had all night and stared at the grinning sphinx across the table.

The Review:

Immortally Ever After is as much fun as the first two books in the Monster M*A*S*H series. I highly recommend reading the previous books as they weigh heavily on the story in the final book of this trilogy. Dr. Petra Robichaud is enjoying the temporary cease fire to the war that has her trapped in another dimension with all the world’s gods/goddesses and mythical creatures. Petra has been using the downtime to treat actual illnesses and other wellness treatment instead of just war injuries.

The down time has also allowed Petra to spend some quality time with her old flame/current beau Marc. Everyone at camp is acting strange towards Petra because they know that Marc is going to propose to her. She is very nervous because she doesn’t know how she is going to respond to that question. Not even a few minutes after Marc pops the question, Petra learns that Galen, the man who broke her heart, is back in camp and needs her help.

Galen has infiltrated the enemy forces and brought back a weapon that the Old Gods want to use the destroy the New Gods. Galen and the weapon must be hidden in secret so that the gods can’t find it and use the weapon. Petra cannot help but feel the attraction for Galen that was always there but she is scared to act on it, knowing that Galen will leave her once again to fight. New prophecies unfold pertaining to Petra’s role in the end of the war. Petra becomes frustrated with the new information and all the secrets she has to hide.

Immortally Ever After has a great cast of supporting characters including a sphinx, Medusa, Medusa’s sisters and the Fates that really make the story. Angie Fox really pays attention to detail, even on the minor characters which can take the story from fun to tense or tense to fun all in the matter of a few paragraphs.

I enjoyed Petra even more in the final novel. I could feel her frustration and pain towards the war, the prophecies and Galen and her nervousness at Medusa’s baby shower. I had a little more frustration towards Galen and the fact that he broke Petra’s heart the way he did and how he just thinks that they should pick right back up in their relationship before he broke up with her. Even though he is sure that he will have to leave her again.

Overall, Immortally Ever After was a little slow to pick up with the prophecy portion of the story but otherwise it was a wonderful, sexy and fun story with a satisfying ending. If you have a fondness for mythology, I would urge you to pick up this series.

Notable Scene:

I took a deep breath, held it, and opened the latch.

The top of the box flew open and flames shot out. “Holy Hell!” I dropped it on the ground and both of us scrambled out of the way as it hissed and spun, shooting fire and sparks. It bounced off the iron stove and skidded in front of Rodger’s cot.

Bang!

It exploded in a shower of hot glittering pieces.

I gripped Rodger’s arm, my heart beating wildly, as we stared at a charred black cylinder amid the smoking rubble. I froze as a flame zipped across the spiral wick. There was no time to move, no time to run. Panic seized me and time slowed down.

It was a bomb. I’d unleashed a bomb on my friend. Rodger grabbed me, we clung together, and bam!

I slammed my eyes closed, waiting for the fire and the pain, and . . . nothing happened.

Swallowing hard, I looked down. A pink bear had popped out of the cylinder.

The air held a tang of sulfur and gunpowder.

I held fistfuls of Rodger’s scrub shirt and blinked a couple of times. “What the fuck?”

“One more second and I would have needed new underwear,” Rodger said, peeling me off his arm.

FTC Advisory: Angie Fox graciously provided me with a copy of Immortally Ever After. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ( )
