needs a trigger warning ( )

I mostly loved this book. I enjoyed the feisty heroine. I enjoyed the "on the road" element which is a favorite trope of mine. I liked the hero and how he was exasperated by the heroine but just kept after her all the same. The tone overall was light hearted without being campy or trying too hard. The ending though kept it from being a five star read for me in two different ways.

The fact that him being a werewolf had no bearing on the story at all was disappointing. He changed about twice. And once was accidentally in his sleep. And at the very end when the stalker husband showed up. The heroine and the human heroine from the first book defeated him without the help of the hero or any of the other werewolves. They all stood around in wolf form and growled. Why was this even a werewolf book then? Actually there was absolutely no reason it needed to be. When I read werewolf fiction, I expect the werewolfness to play at least a somewhat major part in the story or why bother.

The second reason that the end was disappointing was finding out that the hero knew who the heroine was all along. That makes the fun of the conversations they had as they got to know each other disappointing lies. So my enjoyment of the hero's character is blemished because they were not real reactions.

So I enjoyed it with those two caveats. ( )

I liked this. It wasn't cute and fluffy, but actually quite serious. I like the way trust was handled in the book. Started reading this while getting a cream tea and just couldn't stop until I was done. I do remember liking the first 2 books so I wonder why I never read this. I like the way the wolf situation is handled in these books, although they still have the alpha, which is not really a real wolf thing. But at least this is better than in some books... Anyway I like when the drama comes from real things and not from people just being idiots. ( )

It was predictable, much more so than the first two books. But, I really liked Caleb & Anna/Tina, so it all evened out for me. I loved how she found her voice and her strength. I loved the scene in the gas station parking lot where she turned that corner and pushed back. ( )
