I think this is a great wordless picture book for both primary and intermediate level readers. It illustrates a child that goes through the seasons inside and outside, and shows what activities they do during their time. The illustrations are simple yet detailed, and there are cut outs on each page that flow to the next one seamlessly. I think it is very interactive and interesting with the cut outs. We can question readers about seasons and possible activities you can perform in those seasons. It gets them thinking. ( )

"Inside outside”, de Lizi Boyd, é uma proposta lúdica gráfica,destinada a crianças entre os 3 e os 5 anos, que acompanha a história de um menino que não podendo sair de casa, encontra ocupações diferenciadas sempre de acordo com as estações do ano. a história sem palavras é repleta de detalhes O livro apresenta janelas cortadas que os leitores podem usar para examinar pequenos detalhes em páginas adjacentes. Logo no início podemos ver o menino a plantar sementes num vaso e mais à frente vemos um boneco de neve entre as páginas recortadas. As vistas interior e exterior alternam-se quando as sementes do menino brotam.
Este livro fala de um menino diferente, que não saí à rua e constrói o seu mundo à volta do que está “dentro”, do que se consegue controlar, daquilo que está “arrumado” contrastando com o que não se consegue controlar, o mundo lá fora, nomeadamente a impossibilidade de se controlar os elementos da natureza. Nesta história, trazemos o exterior para dentro e no interior vivenciamos as emoções, tentando arrumá-las, compartimentá-las... nada mais atual. A pandemia trouxe-nos a certeza que nada controlamos e que o “dentro” nem sempre é “arrumado” e “certo”.
As emoções são como as estações dos ano: às vezes tristes, às vezes alegres.
Porém, tal como nos mostra o livro, o menino tem sempre idéias sobre coisas novas a fazer e o sentimento é de satisfação!" ( )

This is a very cool wordless book. There are cutouts throughout the story that are lots of fun and help tie the whole book together.

I gave this book 5/5 stars because this book could relate to many young children. Inside Outside was about a child who enjoys being inside as much as they love being outside. Everyday the child did something different inside and outside. I also thought the cut-outs were a great use of the illustrations. Young children would be so fascinated by how flipping the page, the cut-out would still show an image from the previous page but it could also fit in with the picture of the current page. For example, inside the house had pictures on the wall, once the page is flipped, it would be outside but the cut-outs make it look as if there were windows shining into the inside of the house. I would use this book with any young child; students could relate by telling me what they do similarly or differently than the child in the book. ( )
