Eyelid Lick is borne out of individual psychedelic experience into a world of streaming communication. These loose, runny poems seek intimacy through testimonial. There's the sensation of the lick, and the sensation of being licked, and if both people know each other enough both sides of the lick can be felt. Assam, Not hate, not no capability to find them cute, or charming, or things. Because there's going to be a baby in the backyard. And because the lambs hang low in the trees. I am so not fucking around. Like a name strangling its body, I'll forget it, too. I'll say one thing, and then completely forget it. I'll remind you of something known to everyone: We could have gotten away with so much more. Donald Dunbar lives in Portland, Oregon, where he co-curates the reading series If Not For Kidnap and teaches poetry to future chefs at Oregon Culinary Institute.… (altro)

I went through a goth phase in high school. I have about a thousand dollars. My hair is getting longer and curlier. I don't floss enough. There is a mole on my cheek I used to be self-conscious about when I was a teenager. I have never been able to ride a skateboard for more than a few feet. I prefer dress shoes to sneakers. I imitate Leve's "Autoportrait" because I want the information on this page to be factual and empty. When eating, I sometimes go "mmm" unconsciously. I have a tattoo on my arm of the Schwarzgerat. I have never felt comfortable winking. I was baptized Catholic but confirmed Lutheran. I dislike both bright and overhead lighting. Most novels are unable to interest me; this began at age 28. I have good eye contact. I used to worry I was gay, not because I was attracted to men, but because so many people called me gay. I feel healthy every time I eat fish. I avoid using pencils. I chew my nails but am practiced enough at it that they are smooth. When I am trying to fall asleep, I visualize things, usually sex or a ghostly fish I discovered in grad school. I throw myself small birthday parties. I had a panic attack in Florida. The first time I fired a pistol was in a shooting range, the second was in the desert. I remember cheating on spelling tests, Japanese tests, math tests, and the AP Programming test. I love videogames but only allow myself to play them every few months. Doing laundry used to make me depressed. I am excellent at giving back rubs. I didn't use illegal drugs until I was 18. I deliberately changed the ways I write lowercase "b"s and "d"s. I have a rather monotonous voice. I consult the I Ching many times throughout the day via an iPhone app. I play backgammon and have invented a number of variations on it. I sometimes write to avoid doing other things. I love teaching but it often exhausts me. The Columbine massacre was very understandable to me. I tend to sit in contorted positions. My Myers-Briggs type is INFP, though in the past it has been ENTP, INTP, and INTJ. I am an optimist. I don't wear loose pants. I enjoy driving for even extremely long periods. The first night I spent in Montana I knew I wanted to die in the west. I prefer listening to music via headphones to speakers, and in many cases, via live performances. I feel proud of how much money I spend on food. Though I have worked for my school for three years, I still haven't set up direct deposit. I wear sunscreen every day. I mostly forget who I loan books to. When a woman puts on glasses, she becomes more attractive to me. Sei Shonagon's Pillow Book as well as Autoportrait. I enjoy watching football but I only get to once or twice per year. Since I switched to shaving with a razor I've only had facial hair for a few days. I forget to eat. I wear many, often clashing, patterns. When I stand up I check for my cellphone, keys, and wallet. I forgive easily, often without being asked to. ( )

...few books of poetry, or indeed few objects of literary art, are as immediately enjoyable.

You can’t live in agony or ecstasy forever, but you can read Eyelid Lick!
