This book gives a voice to each person affected by the horrible dust storms in the 1930's. I think my student's would appreciate hearing how it affects the different people in different ways. The farmer who loses his crops and animals, the nurse who sees many people dying from dust pneumonia, the school teacher trapped in the school house with kids during a dust storm, the banker who has lost all the farmers money now that the stock market has crashed and even Bonny and Clyde, the bank robbers who feel sorry for the people who have nothing and no where to go. It is an interesting perspective from many people which helps us to understand the totality of this historic era. ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Voices from those who lived through the largest environmental catastrophe in American history. From 1931 to 1940, a combination of drought and soil erosion destroyed the fragile ecology and economy of the Great Plains. Evocative illustrations accompany poignant testimonies, including those of a farmer's wife, a banker, and a child who had never seen rain, to provide an emotionally charged account.
