It's a really interesting and well-done exercise, complete with footnotes and all, of something like Gibbons' Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. The actual story took a while to grow on me. By the time it was getting interesting, the book was almost over. I'm not sure if it was the subject matter or not, but it didn't grab me quite as much as The Alienist. Tampoco deberéis ocupar vuestras mentes, quienquiera que desentierre este relato, indagando quién soy, o qué hice en vida: vendrán pistas suficientes, mas los febriles intentos de interpretarlas sólo servirán para distraeros de la importancia que pueda tener la tragedia mayor. Baste con saber que he muerto y que, de uno u otro modo, he presenciado cuanto aquà describo.
