Deception, Intrigue, and romance, this book has them all. As always, I loved Max, he was great with his sarcasm. The ending was a bit of a surprise, I'm not sure if I'm happy or not about it. I 100% loved it! I am thrilled to read the next book soon. ( )

I enjoyed this book more than the first. For one, it seems like there was better editing here. There was also more action, and the scenes set in the Everneath were interesting in a world building sort of way (though the world building still doesn't make much sense, so there's that). Jack remains one of the more boring heroes imaginable, but in a steady and reliable sort of way. It's understandable why Nik would love him. Cole isn't nearly as charming as he should be, given what he's trying to do. Nik is an unpleasant narrator and I find her single minded focus unrelatable. I actually didn't see the twist at the end coming until rather close to the reveal, and I liked that it surprised me. ( )

I hate main characters who whine the whole time. Not only did Nikki do this but she doesn't even care about her family. Yikes. I didn't even like Jack in Everneath. Mostly stereotyped character with no interesting aspects. I love Greek Mythology and thought that this would be a fantastic rendition. Wrong. The first book barely kept me captivated and this one lost me less than 20 pages in. Yuck. I can't read one more sentence that is anything like, "I'm shattered and incomplete without him." He sacrificed himself for you. Knock it off. ( )

Cover Rating

Finished the book at around 5 A.M. (EST-USA time) or so this morning....

And of course, I am still #TeamJack all the way! :-D

It's not something I would jump, scream and holler about..But I would recommend continuing on in the series with this book if you read and enjoyed Everneath....It is very much worth reading and getting through.

I am ready for the next book in the series...Evertrue...which isnt scheduled to come out until 2014...Such a long wait! Sheesh!

But hopefully, I will have some type of E-Reader (Kindle Fire-hopefully) and I will be able to read Neverfall soon as well.

See, when I picked up this book, I was totally NOT expecting to fall in love with Cole.

Plot: 5/5
So, Jack is in the tunnels. Because of Nikki. She convinces Cole to help her journey through the Everneath and find him.
They have to go through a maze, like a labyrinth, like greek mythology, except it’s not really maze-like, but still so epic.
Mysteries are unraveled.
Towards the end…
Betrayal. I feel like my heart just got ripped out of my chest. Pun (a little bit) intended.

Characters: 4/5
There were only really four characters in this book. I’m not counting Jack as one. Jack was there, yes, but not as a character. More as… the reason. The catalyst for everything that’s happening.
But we had…
Nikki: again, I am astounded at the way she can be fragile and strong simultaneously. Her love for Jack… yet her reactions to Cole…
Cole: Oh. My. God. I love Jack. Even in book one, the whole time Nikki was convinced he’d cheated on her, I believed him. I WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO FALL IN LOVE WITH COLE. Yet somehow, I did. Only to be met with a heart-wrenching sense of betrayal at the end.
Ashe: I just want to find out exactly WHY he is gray.
Max: Max was a very practical character, and he added a lightness to their journey through the Everneath.
Will: Jacks older brother. I love how he was there, supporting Nikki and encouraging her the whole way. and at the end—before the heart-wrenching betrayal—he as convinced, like me, that Cole did what he did for a reason. A good reason, and he did. Do that, for a good reason. I think.
I just, I don’t know, I can’t find the words to properly articulate my feelings…

Romance: 5/5
Okay, I’m pretty sure Nikki didn’t fall in love with Cole in this book. But I believe we’ve already established that I did, and personally, I care more about myself and my feelings then Nikki’s feelings. Not that Niki’s feelings aren’t important. But… I… Cole…

1 extra credit point for totally making me fall in love with Cole then ripping my heart out and stomping on it!

Overall Grade: 15/15

No words. I WAS NOT supposed to fall in love with Cole. If anything, I was supposed to freindzone him like Nikki did. But now… I don’t know… why Cole… heart wrenched and stomped upon… why…
