Here's another excellent book that can be used in a social studies class when talking about how people around the world dress like. As I was going through the pages, the pictures of all the different people from different cultures in their cultural attire were refreshing. The clothing we all choose to wear is so different, but the intent when we put on the clothes we do is all the same no matter what you're cultural background is. We wear what we wear because that is all we know, it's how we were brought up, and that is the point the author is trying to make in this book. ( )

What we wear has a big impact on our self esteem and depicts our personalities and culture. This book is a great way for young readers to learn not only about there kind of style of clothing but others as well. It encourages children to see how others dress and gives big insight on family heritage and overall understanding on different clothing that different cultures wear all while explaining that clothes and style is the same for everyone, that being individuality and diversity.

This book is about introducing the reader on the different ways that children dress based on their country. It also gives some detail about their culture differences like the festivals they celebrate, the religion, and schools. I liked the pictures in this book and the variety of cultures in it. I recommend this book to be read aloud for kindergarten, first, second, and third graders. This would be a great book to read during a culture unit. ( )

This informational book displays pictures of kids from all over the world dressed in outfits for varying events such as school, sports, festivals, and religion (the kids' location is typed on each picture). It explains whey people dress up - to have fun! It goes on to show the different materials used for outfits and what the clothes mean to all cultures. The book states that "dressing up means celebrating who we are and what we believe" along with showing different team outfits for various events. After a multitude of pictures are shown and reasons behind clothing is stated, "What We Wear" proceeds to show - on a map - where all the kids in the pictures came from and then details ways that kids can learn more about different cultures as well as their own cultural heritage. I love how this book is like taking a trip around the world through the pictures and outfits it shares. This book really opens one's eyes to all of the amazing aspects of culture that other nations have. This book does not offer much information, so it is just kind of a peek into the details of these cultures, but it it so interesting to look at the huge differences between a kimono and a soccer uniform. In the back of this book, there are resources to find out more about each of the cultures portrayed in this book. I feel like that is a very useful tool to have in this book and could be a great gateway to finding more books. The big picture of this book is to create a beginning to exposure to many different countries and cultures. It is showing a lot of larger ideas in this simple way. ( )
