Some people are simply great at their job; they always seem to say or do the right thing. They are mentioned in every conversation. Everybody likes them. They get promoted. They get pay raises. They get along with the boss. And somehow, they do all these things without being unpleasant, breaking much of a sweat or seeming to put in excess effort. And when they are offered another step up the corporate ladder or a fabulous new job, no one is surprised. After all, they have 'potential' written all over them. How do they do it? Do they know some secret we don't? Yes, they know The Rules of Work.   These rules aren't about how to do your job, they are about how you are seen doing it. They are about how you appear to others. And they are about helping you to achieve the success you richly deserve. The first edition of The Rules of Work: A Definitive Code for Personal Successbecame a global phenomenon, topping bestseller charts around the world. This new edition includes 10 brand new rules to take you further, faster. These rules are the guiding principles that will improve both what you do and how you do it, giving you the unmistakable air of confidence that will win you admiration, respect, and the next promotion. With The Rules under your belt you'll have the edge in everything you do, without having to compromise your principles.  … (altro)

"All of these, of course, are the wrong reasons for expressing an opinion. The real reason for expressing an opinion is because you have been asked to. If you are asked, then say what you think. If you ain’t been asked, then shut up. "

If someone asks you for your true thoughts, then you can say it in private. One to one. Do not offer your thoughts verbally or in writing unless asked to do so in a conversation or a discussion forum. Or in a meeting.

"Your opinion should almost have to be dragged from you. "

If no one asks you for your thoughts verbally by calling on you fhen do not share what you are thinking. At all. One it might mess up the flow of the discussion and cause the discussion moderator to go on a tangent in their thinking-one which they perhaps were not expecting or preparing for-and also might lead others in the room struggling to follow your vefbal thinking process.

Remember you do not need to express your opinions at all. No one cares what you think. And if you do try you afe only confirming the state kf ghejr bdlief in upur verbal interaction wjtb them and uour verbal intelligence.

"What you have to say is important, and you don’t squander your opinions willy-nilly. You don’t run off at the mouth. You don’t sit there spouting opinions.”

Keep what you have to say for the moments you are called on to say them. Do not speak for the sake of speaking to fill the empty air. There is a glorious feeling in silence. Use it. You do not have to add or opine in every conversation either. Just be still and listen with all of your senses. The less you say the more you observe. The more you observe the less you say. Why? Because people are miserable and they want others to be miserable so they complain, gossip, blame, and are negative. Just listen and do you daily tasks without much interaction with the world outside unless necessary and live your own life reading books, writing and singing. Avoid the negativity and it's behaviors. And promote positivity with all its rich flavors. ( )

Stop being neurotic, show some emotional intelligence and political savy, and realize that you at work, all the time. I waffled between concurrence and wanting to take a shower after reading. Most tips are spot-on. Many are a bit insincere, disingenuous, perfidious, but oh so true. ( )
