For 300 years, the Fyne women have called the mountain Orianan their home, inheriting the supernatural arts from their mothers--but a long-ago curse makes true love unattainable for them.   When she meets the green-eyed soldier of her dreams, youngest sister Sophie discovers that she has been gifted with abundant fertility.   Now, she and her lover must call on all their strengths, both earthly and supernatural, to fight the curse which promises to end their happiness.  … (altro)

This book was surprisingly good. I really liked Sophie. Though she grew up sheltered, she was able to realize her potential to rescue her daughter. I thought Kane was a pretty good hero and a perfect match for Sophie.

The side story dealing with the war and the emperor was very intriguing and kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to read the next book in this trilogy.

Not at all the light, uncomplicated story I was expecting. There's more jumping among characters than I was anticipating (and not only to the other sisters), but the stories of the secondary characters were fairly robust and added overall enrichment to the tale. While it's an incomplete story (trilogy!) there is an individual thread for this particular installment that was quite satisfying. ( )

Centuries ago a lover cast a curse on the Fyne women. They would lose any love they found, now many of the Fyne women just take a lover in order to have children, that or vow celibacy. This generation of women are the focus of this series.

Sophie has yet to find her power, she finds an injured soldier and heals him, finding herself attracted to him but she keeps him unaware of the reality of her, he thinks she's an apparation. She comes back searching for her to find that she had a child. When that child is kidnapped they have to join together to find her. This closeness makes them examine their feelings for each other.

It is pretty predictable, but I found it an enjoyable read. ( )

Yet another enjoyable reccomendation from Amazon. If you enjoy paranormal or fantasy novels with sugar-sweet romance this book will most likely appeal, but not if you're looking for something dark.

The title alone should tell you this book is about a witch and the fact that she is the "sun" witch should give away this is not a dark or truly tragic tale. Built around a curse that keeps the Fyne sisters from falling in love lest their love die an untimely death, the story centers around their need to break the curse. In the focus of this first tale is Sophie the youngest Fyne sister, one of three witches who live in relative seclusion on Fyne Mountain, and the father of her daughter Kane. When their baby daughter is kidnapped they must journey across their world to rescue her and along the way their journey reveals several things from their growing love to the identity of Sophie's father. In a secondary plotline we find Kane's long missing sister Lianne, a concubine living with the shut-in Emperor, leading a side story of court intrigue that helps to tie some of the story together.

I enjoyed the story as a whole but felt that oft times things were discovered with no conflict to strengthen the outcome. I was quite excited by the introduction of the character Ryn, whom I found intriguing, but felt like he was shoved into the story at random to prepare readers for the next book and that did not do him justice. The ending didn't quite satisfy me as a reader who likes more closure but knowing there are more tales of the Fyne sisters I will certainly read them and enjoy. If you're looking for a light, fluffy romance in a fantasy setting this book will likely please. ( )
