"Evangeline has spent her teenage years in obscurity. Her foster parents have the emotional aptitude of robots and her classmates barely acknowledge her existence. About to turn eighteen and feeling like a social pariah, she is desperate to connect with someone. Anyone. When Evangeline meets Sofie after literally stumbling upon her cafe, she believes she's found that connection. Willing to do anything to keep it, she accepts a job as Sofie's assistant and drops everything to fly to Manhattan, where she is thrust into a luxurious world of Prada, diamonds, and limitless cash. With such generosity and kindness, it's easy for Evangeline to dismiss certain oddities . . . like Sofie's erratic and sometimes violent behavior, and the monstrous guard dogs. She's even willing to dismiss her vivid dreams of mob-style murders, beautiful homeless people living in caves, and white-eyed demons that haunt her each night as figments of her imagination-especially when one of those figments is the gorgeous Caden. When she wakes up with bite marks on her neck, the fairy tale quickly turns into a nightmare. She slowly unravels the mystery surrounding Sofie and friends, and the reality of the bites and the "dreams." What she discovers is far more mysterious and terrible than anything she could have imagined. In a world where everyone has motive to lie for personal gain, Evangeline must decide which deception is least likely to get her killed."--… (altro)

This was a free book and oh. my. god. I loved it!

"I know; it's hard not to like me," Amelie said, throwing her arm around my shoulder. "I'm extremely charming."

I fell in love with the characters, especially the Ratheus bunch, excluding Rachel, Sofie, Leo, and Max. The above par writing was an added bonus. There were a few mishaps (doddle instead of dawdle being a very noticeable one in the first or second chapter) but nothing that took away from the story.

More to come... ( )

I've come across so many different concepts within the vampire sub-genre that I'm always surprised to see something new that can still grab my attention. The vampire concept was different and was actually interesting. There was the usual "good" vampire, that's an understatement, these vampires were deceptively good. I was instantly wary about the intentions of these vampires when it came to Evangeline's trusting nature. Of course at first she didn't know there were vampires.

This vampire story as the usual, bad and good vampires, witches, and the unwitting human. But there were the surprising elements of vampire were-beasts (new to me at least), surprising twists, secrets and some dimension travel. And that was where this story took on a different feel and made it that more intriguing and inventive. ( )

I couldn't predict, not on the slightest, what would happen next. There were so many twists and turns that really kept the story going. The storyline was by far the best thing about this book. I was completely hooked.

Another thing I loved was Sofie's character. It was complex but wonderful.

In my opinion, the only thing wrong with this book is that sometimes the writing can seem a little childish. The writing isn't terrible I guess I'm just used to a different style of writing. I could see in some parts the writing was more mature than in others but overall it was this that let the book go. Also if there were more backstories, you could've felt with all of the characters more. The only character you got to know was Sofie and a little about Evangeline. Hopefully you learn more in the sequels.

Overall I give it 3.5/5 stars! I am jumping into Asylum straight away though!! Can not wait to see what happens next. ( )
