The artwork is less hit than it is miss, unfortunately, but it does occasionally have some very effective pages. The writing, though, for my money, is quite good, and in the end, that's what truly matters to me. One can easily see why Bendis since ended up getting a career as a comic writer, not a comic artist. I found the story satisfactorily entertaining, going in surprising directions and coming together very well at the end. If you like a bit of gritty noir crime and don't mind having to re-read the occasional half-page when the artwork isn't very clear (sadly does happen a few times here), you could do a lot worse than Goldfish. It's not required, but if you're a fan of a long-lost era of black and white film shot mostly in shadow where you knew good knew better than to even think about showing up to this particular end of bad's town, you'll go in fully prepared to enjoy everything about this story. Bendis captures the noir of this story of a soured love between a low-end con man and his hard-as-nails dame gal who has risen to the heights of the criminal underworld since their split nearly a decade ago. In this story of a revenge-fueled reunion that sprawls out to include an entire crime empire, a power-hungry district attorney, an old partner, a secret and a few dames that may or may not be in distress you find panels drowning in black ink to create the perfect blend of story and mood. Just don't expect anyone in a white hat to show up and you'll do just fine. Bendis always writes interesting graphic novels. His dialogue is crisp and realistic, his characters complete and believable. I really fell in love with his crime work with JINX, but this is the second time I've read this one. It was better the second time. I imagine it will be even better the third. This is why I like Bendis, his works hold up. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
