I was hoping for an angsty spinster romance and ended up with a weird beta hero raping a confused heroine who had no dimensions. And the sister was just not a believable character, and the heroine an idiot for constantly enabling her. I didn't feel any chemistry between the characters, and no real angst despite the set-up. (1.5 stars) I love John Hendricks, but I'm not overly fond of any of the other characters, Drusilla included. Drusilla is really uppity, and the narration makes it clear that her attitude is "everyone is a whore but me!" ...when she's the only one actually having premartial sex... So it was a bit annoying to hear her going on about Charlotte and Priss. Also, there's no consequences in this novel for ANYTHING. They rob a carriage, steal one, etc, etc and nothing ever happens to them. It doesn't help the unrealistic quality already set by these "wanton women" that Drusilla happens to see everywhere. I really like John Hendricks, though, like I said before. I just wish perhaps the plot had been different, or more fleshed out. Or perhaps that Drusilla had been different. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Considered a spinster, Lady Drusilla Rudney has only one role in life: to chaperone her sister. So when her flighty sibling elopes, Dru knows she has to stop her! She employs the help of a traveling companion, who looks harmless enough.... Former army captain John Hendricks is intrigued by this damsel in distress. Once embroiled with her in a mad dash across England, he discovers that Dru is no simpering woman. Her unconventional ways make him want to forget his gentlemanly conduct...and create a scandal all their own! Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

The rest of the story was entertaining. Nothing particularly deep - especially the developing relationship between Drusilla and John - they talked but it was too shallow for a believable relationship. Dru had glimpses of being a strong character but she was so naive, it was hard to love her. John was sweet but nothing that moved me.
Still, it was an easy read. 2.5 stars. ( )
