Grant L. Voth is clearly passionate about his topic and excited to share it. He's careful not to go off on side-rambles and shares from a wide variety of cultures to give a well-rounded, universal view of the subject. This is the second of the Great Courses I've listening to, and I fully intend to go back and re-listen to it because I couldn't give it enough attention. There are so many details and stories... really, I couldn't ask for more in this professor. His passion came through so thoroughly a listener cannot help but be interested in the myths.
Additionally, this is a great overview of world mythology. For someone who is interested in a variety of myth and wants to learn their elements - how they are similar and how they differ - this is an excellent lecture series. I have always been a huge fan of a "mono-myth" and I had no idea it was a real thing. This series shows how this perspective has merit, but it also allows the listener to come to their own conclusions without being too preachy about it.
All in all, it's easy to get lost in these lectures and Professor Voth does a wonderful job teaching his subject. I would recommend this series to anyone interested in a refresher or starter course on world mythology, common story archetypes, or the mono-myth. ( )
