This is the story of Honor and her daughter, Emily. Honor's husband, Eddie, was killed in the line of duty as a police officer. One day, Emily comes into the house and tells Honor that there's a man in the yard taking a nap. Honor goes out to check on him and he takes her and Emily hostage in their own home. Coburn is looking for something Eddie had and Honor has no idea what he is referring to.

Coburn is accused of killing people at a shipping warehouse the night before he shows up at Honor's house. When Coburn realizes that the police are getting close, he takes Honor and Emily and they leave their home and go into hiding. Not only are the police looking for Coburn, so is The Bookkeeper, but nobody knows who The Bookkeeper is.

Very well written, lots of twists. Didn't expect the ending but it was all wrapped up nicely. Believable characters. ( )

Finding Lee Coburn bleeding in her front yard begins a series of dangerous events for Honor Gillette and her four year old daughter, Emily. Coburn is accused of a mass shooting at a warehouse where he worked, but when Coburn tells her that he is an undercover FBI agent, and he was investigating the town and her husband, Honor is determined to make sure that she stays with Coburn long enough to prove Eddie's innocence. However, remaining with Coburn could put her and her daughter in the crosshairs of an evil mastermind known as "The Bookkeeper" and could risk her heart as she gets closer and closer to Coburn.

Lethal is the first and only book in the Lee Coburn series. The characters, plot, and dialogue all make for a very good story even though some of the scenes are a bit over the top and the character of "The Bookkeeper," a little over-dramatic. The romance between Coburn and Honor takes a backseat to the mystery and action, but still holds enough weight for the book to maintain the label of romantic suspense. There isn't an overabundance of character development in this novel, but there is enough to make the protagonists and their relationship interesting for the reader. A moderate twist at the end adds an entertaining conclusion to the story. Overall, Lethal would have been a good beginning to a series that never took off. ( )

I liked this on the whole. The writing was well done. You were kept guessing for quite a while about who the bad guy was. There was a bit of unbelievability about the eventual solving of the crime but it wasn't that horrible. I liked the main romance and the small secondary romance. The surly hero was a great character and the heroine was pretty believable. While it did end okay, I disliked the ending. If there's going to be any romance in a thriller and it is set up for us to know that they get together in the end, I want to see it not just know it's probably going to happen. Seemed like that was an author's affectation. ( )
