This is a great book to read to children especially when learning about the solar system. I think this is a fun way to introduce and review some things about the solar system with children. I love the illustration in this book, I think it keeps the children’s attention with the different colors and keep them into the book. I also loved the facts on the side of some of the pages about the solar system and stars. I think this is perfect to incorporate into a science lesson, as sort of a review but in a fun way for students. Not only is this good for a science lesson, but I think it’s good to help students with their vocabulary. A few times in the book Nancy mentions a big word, but following that big word, O’Connor makes sure to explain what that big word means and I absolutely love that in a children’s book, and can encourage students to branch out in their vocabulary since they have now learned a new word if they did not already know what it meant. Fancy Nancy books are great books to read to children and I plan to read them to my future classes as a teacher. ( )

This is another Fancy Nancy true or non-fiction story. This time the reader gets to learn about stars. I like this because it reads like a picture book, looks like a picture book but only uses true facts. A nice read all around. ( )

Fancy Nancy returns in this fifth smaller-sized picture-book devoted to her adventures, following upon such titles as Fancy Nancy: Explorer Extraordinaire! and Fancy Nancy: Poet Extraordinaire!. Unlike the full-sized picture-books, this sub-series of the larger Fancy Nancy collection pairs a fictional narrative - in this case, the story of Nancy, her little sister Jo-Jo and her father camping out under the stars - with factual asides, here involving the stars, the sun and the moon. The result is a winsome little book that is both entertaining and educational.

I continue to be surprised by how much I enjoy the Fancy Nancy books, given how reluctant I was to pick up the first, the eponymously titled Fancy Nancy. Fancy Nancy: Stellar Stargazer is the fifteenth book I have read about this character, but despite that fact, I continue to find author Jane O'Connor and illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser's books immensely engaging. This five-book sub-series is quite appealing, and I appreciate how it pairs fiction and non-fiction. The artwork is, as always, charming and delightful. This is one I would recommend to Fancy Nancy fans, as well as to young stargazers. ( )
