"Melody Thomas is an author to watch! [She] kept me glued to the pages!"  --Karen Hawkins Melody Thomas brings breathtaking new life to a classic fairy tale in This Perfect Kiss. Great first chapter and then all downhill. Very poorly written. Little snippets of information back and forth and all over the place. Kept me saying WTF??? The chapters toward the end were better and the ending was nice (but a little quick). ( )

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

THIS PERFECT KISS was such a tenderhearted story that it gave me pleasure from start to finish.

Christel Douglas is seventeen, and she knows that the only man for her is Camden St. Giles, captain in the Royal Navy and a future earl of Carrick. She is also aware that he hardly knows who she is and that they would never be together. This young woman has no illusions of `grand love' when it comes to Camden, but like any young woman, she is allowed to dream. And she dreams to kiss this gorgeous young man. She gets that opportunity one enchanting night, during a ball. She follows Camden out of the ballroom and they share a perfect, passionate kiss. Christel keeps her identity hidden from Camden by the mask she wears, knowing that he would never have anything to do with her as class and her birth right will always stand in their way.

Camden St. Giles is twenty-two years old, but that doesn't stop this young, ambitious man from achieving status and glory in the Royal Navy. He takes time out from his duty to the Crown to fulfill his duty to his family and marry. On the night of his betrothal ball, he spies a young and beautiful woman dancing under the stars and steals a kiss from her. He wants to dance with her and makes her promise him to come inside and share a dance. Alas, she never fulfills the promise, and that night, Camden gets engaged to Saundra, her cousin.

It has been ten years since that night. They've been touched by love and war and both carry deep scars from that time; but the memory of that perfect kiss lingers on in them both, and the need in their hearts for one another will not be denied any longer.

I just loved this story. The author does such a fantastic job of drawing us into the story that just as I thought I figured it out, she goes and throws me a curve ball! It was well told, with plenty of wonderful love scenes, back story, and a perfect pace. She gives us a peek into the American Revolution and some of the Scots who've helped the Americans against the British. The writing style of this author is crisp, clean, and refreshing. This is my first ever Melody Thomas novel, but it will not be the last.
