While he stocks up for the winter, Ant is annoyed by Grasshopper's singing and dancing all summer long but soon realizes there is value in having fun.

This is a traditional folktale of a hard working ant and a grasshopper who likes to have fun. This is a tale that shows when you work hard for something, you're prepared for it, but if you don't work hard there can be consequences.

I thought this book was okay. I understood the concept of being a hard worker and saving of food for the cold winter. However, I didn't really like that the grasshopper was homeless so he really didn't have a place to store the food even if he had tried too. But they ant portrayed him as lazy. And then at the end the Ant wanted to learning to play an instrument and sing. I felt like this story was kind of all over the place. But I did like that the two characters were able to come together at the end and make a friendship. ( )

This a retelling of an Aesop's fable with bright illustrations in warm colors. The themes include friendship, hard work, patience, preparation and respecting differences.
