Gorgeous, intricate illustrations and a beautifully simplified story. Gibb neatly sidesteps some of the harder-to-explain bits of the original tale without entirely eliminating its darker aspects: no mention is made of Rapunzel's pregnancy, but the prince is still pushed from the tower into a thorn bush, becoming "so badly hurt that he could no longer see." This is the way you retell a faery tale for children. ( )

This book is all about the illustrations. I was dreading reading another Rapunzel story to my three year old (she picked it out at the library) but the illustrations were some detailed and fun. The story its simple and the details are found in the art on each page. I won't mind rereading this version. ( )

I liked “Rapunzel” for two reasons. First, I truly like that this story has been around for so long and is considered a traditional story, but it is written in so many different ways. The general idea of the story, Rapunzel letting her hair down, is the same but there is always one different aspect in the retold stories. This aspect is interesting to think about, because the story told today can be nothing like the original ‘traditional’ story that was once told. Second, I really liked the illustrations in this book. The colors were very vibrant and eye catching. They would typically be more appealing to female readers, but the book overall is written for anyone! The main point in Rapunzel is to tell the love story of a girl who has been locked away and desperately wants to be freed, and with the help of her long locks, she gets a happy ending. ( )

I loved this book. I liked the plot and the pictures. I really enjoyed the plot because it was the classic storyline of Rapunzel, with a little bit of a modern twist. I love this story because it is fun and different. For example, it is hard to imagine having hair that long. I also like how something as simple as her hair, ties into her meeting her prince and being saved. I absolutely loved the pictures in this book. They were fun and depicted what the story was telling, on that particular page. I think the book did an awesome job at showing exactly how long her hair was, especially through the use of pictures. For example, on one page, Rapunzel is at the top left corner of the page and her hair wraps all the way around the pages and acts as the boarder. My favorite picture in the story also showed exactly how long her hair was. It was a picture of her castle that was way above the mountains in the story. This was a great representation of exactly how tall her castle was. Without the mountains and trees below the castle, the castle wouldn’t look as tall. In the picture, Rapunzel has her hair hanging out of the window in her castle and the prince is climbing up her hair to rescue her. This again shows how long her hair was. I also liked that the pictures were very colorful and drew the reader in. For example, once Rapunzel is rescued, they throw her a party. All the people there look happy and cheerful and the colors are bright and fun. The main idea of this story is to tell the classic story of Rapunzel. ( )

Summary:
A little girl was put into a castle far way from people. the only people she had contact with was little animals from the forest. Rapunzel had very long hair. One day a prince came along and changed everything.

Personal Experience:
I have always loved this book. I love when my little sisters would play dress up and they would pretend to be Rapunzel. I love the idea of having long hair and being able to do all the things she did with it.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Have the kids braid blonde string and then have them glue it on to Rapunzel.
2. The class could pin the hair on the Rapunzel. ( )
