I've been there once, and I'm dreaming of going back, exploring more, and this time with my husband. I adore French women and their effortless and understated style, it's not me, but I adore it on them. This book is great as a traveling guide as it has all the address and locations, good tips and cute illustrations. Bravo! People say that the french are snobbish and after reading this guide the author will not help with changing your mind. This book is not about helping you compose your own style, but rather teach you some tips about the french style of dressing. But that is not to say that you won't be able to enjoy some of them. Plus, Ines put together not only fashion tips, but also various aspects of la vie française, like make up, decor, diner parties and more. It can also pass as a Paris tour guide through places that are not in official guides and only the parisian know about. This book, for me, was a "meh" experience. Don't get me wrong; if you're planning a trip to Paris, or if you have the kind of disposable income that allows you to do international shopping, and buy expensive things, it's certainly a handy resource, and more power to you! Some of the style and beauty tips were helpful (learn the rules of style, so you can break them and invent your own style; know yourself and your body to dress in a way that pleases you; use lotion, cream or cleansing milk to clean your face and don't use too much water). It was interesting to read about what French women do to make themselves attractive, and how they maintain themselves. She gives you plenty of ideas about what to do should you be lucky enough to visit Paris. She includes places to visit like parks, off-the-beaten-path museums, restaurants, cafes and shops. She also provides web addresses and phone numbers for many of the stores. Some stores, marked "Paris Exclusive" are strictly local. One thing I really liked about the book, is that it is high-quality. The binding is a soft cover, with textured paper, and includes a cloth bookmark, so you never lose your place. The artwork in the book has been done by Ms. de la Fressange and Sophie Gachet, with contributions from different photographers. Ms. de la Fressange's daughter is a model in some of the photos. Also, the book was free of typos and errors in grammar and spelling. The fonts used in the book are really nice, as well. On the whole, it's a very stylish read, and you won't be ashamed to be spotted reading it on the bus or train. It's also an easy read. The only negative about it is that it reads more like a tourist's guide to Paris, once you get past the section about style and beauty. If you're looking for a comprehensive guide to style, there are better books out there. Personally, I got bored with the "tourist's guide to Paris" section, and I quit before I finished the book. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
