This is my least favorite Scaredy Squirrel book. It has too many lists and not enough action. That said, I'm sure my nephew will still love THAT'S NOT PART OF THE PLAN! And seeing the return of Buddy the dog. ( )

Typical Scaredy plans a birthday but is too afraid to invite any guests. But when one friend shows him that it isn't so bad to have friends, he decides to invite him. He makes his plans and prepares like he always does. But when he gets to his party at the bottom of the nut tree, he sees many guests! He panics and plays dead for 2 hours. When he realizes they aren't leaving he finally realizes that it isn't so bad afterall. He decides to join them and has a great time. ( )

Such cute book utilizing thick bold lines within the drawings, so the bright solid colors stand out. Its about a squirrel who is afraid of parties and such for tons of funny reasons he lists out, so you follow him as he tries to plan a birthday party. Kids will find this little squirrel amusing and enjoy this book. There are a lot of words on some pages, so it will be a great story time book, or book read with someone one on one. The words aren't too big though, so a child could read each page on their own at their own pace.

This is a book about a squirrel that has a birthday party. Scaredy squirrel tries to have a birthday party just by himself to save troubles and dangers that would ruin the party. So he decides to invite only himself and have a calm "party" in his tree alone. He makes lists of things he needs to do including getting his tuxedo dry-cleaned, and mail party invitation to himself. But suddenly when his party is about to start. ALL his friends come and give him a birthday surprise. Scaredy Squirrel freaks out and plays dead. but when he wakes up hes sees a birthday cake and everyone around sitting quietly. He then decides to invite everyone to his next birthday party next year.

Scaredy Squirrel returns in this fifth picture-book devoted to his (mis)adventures, once again attempting to make his small world safe, and to preclude any sort of frightening experience. Deciding to throw himself a birthday party - the safe kind, with only himself in attendance - he is convinced to include his pal Buddy, whom he met and befriended in Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend, after he receives a thoughtful birthday card in the mail. Unfortunately (or not), his carefully revised plans for a party of two turn out to be less-then-helpful when Buddy shows up with a litter of puppies in two...

Scaredy Squirrel Has a Birthday Party is another amusing entry in Mélanie Watt's ongoing picture-book series about the neurotic, list-making squirrel. The usual droll list of fears - clown-fish being one of the terrors of birthday parties, apparently - makes it appearance here, as does the slight widening of its sciurine hero's outlook. Of course, any alteration of the original plan, in a Scaredy Squirrel book, is usually accompanied by further feverish planning to make the new plan safe, and this is no exception. Recommended to timid child readers, who will enjoy reading about a character even more afraid than they are, as well as to fans of Scaredy Squirrel and his hilarious hi-jinks. ( )
