This is the first Landscape Photographer of the Year book that I have seen, and after seeing Garden Photographer of the Year Collection 1 I was expecting to be similarly impressed. However that is not the case. While there is no questioning the technical quality of the photography here, with many of the shots taken under far from normal conditions, I am struck by the lack of originality of the handling, if I had to sum all of them up in a word it would be cliché. There is also a lot of repetition within the collection in that there are many similar photographs, in both choice of subject or lighting/atmospheric conditions.

The book is informative, it is useful to have the details of camera and settings for each photograph, although I fail to see why these must be provided separately at the back of the book rather than alongside the respective photographs, it becomes rather tiresome having to keep turning to the back to find the relevant information.
