A rather interesting group of stories. In a sense these offerings are very Lovecraftian...not as cosmic and a tad more on the violent side but still entertaining. The prose is very reminiscent of the time it is harking back to but still effective. What almost ruined this for me is the YouTube videos the author used to advertise this series. If I would have seen those first...there is no way I would have spent money on them. When you hold the book in your hand you instantly get this darkly mysterious and ominous feeling of something that seems forbidden. It is best to keep it that way.
I am still not decided on the rest of the series. The book is nicely bound and instantly looks great on a shelf, but that is not what should define it. At times the author tries too hard to be spooky by being full of schlock. If you want some down to earth, quick and in a hurry horror stories then this is a must. ( )

A Unique Vision

An impressive first collection from author and podcaster M. Amanuensis Sharkchild. These are tales of twisted logic, ventures into strange realms, and encounters with incomprehensible entities. There is an impressive range of ideas and some genuine imagination on display here. The prose varies a little in quality, but colorful and varied vocabulary makes up for some of the rough spots. I would definitely recommend this book to readers of dark fantasy, horror, and weird fiction. ( )
