This was a fun read - light and entertaining. I had never heard of Titanic before this book, but after hearing the pitch on NPR one afternoon, I decided to give it a try.

I'm glad I did: I now know more about poker odds, dice odds, odd stories about fantastic feats, feats that make you laugh out loud. He was quite a hustler.

My favorite story (don't worry I won't spoil it) was about the time he came close to winning a horse race. This was the one area of gambling that Ti could not make money on... this story where he gave it everything he had cracked me up.

As far as the rating: it was fun, but it wasn't outstanding. The pace of it was fast, but in the end I was getting rather tired of the tone... perhaps I just don't identify with Ti... he wasn't a very nice guy after all. ( )

Titanic Thompson was quite an exciting character. His talents and the history of his times are captured in the book. The book is well written and provides a terrific glimpse into the world of early 20th century hustlers. ( )
