Fancy Nancy pretends she is a glamorous celebrity and stays up too late looking at photographs, only to be exhausted the next day.

This story is about a little girl who enjoys spending time with her neighbors and learns all about celebrities and Hollywood. One night, the neighbor lends Nancy a book to take home. At bedtime, Fancy Nancy sneaks and turns on her flashlight to read the book and stays up way past her bedtime. The next day she is SO tired!

I would use this book with grades K-3 for the humor, use of synonyms, and because its relatable to children. ( )

This story is about a little girl who goes over to her neighbors house and learns all about celebrities and Hollywood and gets to take home her scrapbook. She goes home and does hw, eats, and has to go to bed but ends up staying up really late because she has to look at the scrapbook. At school the next day she is exhausted and goes to bed supper early that night wakes up the next morning refreshed. I really like this book because it uses big vocab words and then explains what the word means or a synonym for the word. This would be really useful for children to read to expand their vocab words and have pictures to help them figure out what the word means as well. You could use this book when kids are first learning about synonyms and vocab words and have a story time. The theme of this book is words and respect.

I know Fancy Nancy is all the rage now and I had this negative perception that Nancy would be an annoying character that was too vain and set a poor example for little girls to be idolizing. So I was pleasantly surprised to find that Nancy was just a regular little girl with everyday problems - in this book the problem being that she stayed up to late and paid for it by being too tired the next day to do anything fun. Also, the fancy part refers not so much to a little girl who loves to dress up, but to a little girl who likes to use "fancy" vocabulary like "veranda" instead of "porch" - what an excellent way to teach children new words! The illustrations are lovely, and I particularly enjoyed the cameos of old movie stars like Audrey Hepburn. ( )
