A Hidden Affair is the sequel to Almost Home, I only realised this when I was reading the Acknowledgements at the end of the book - I never felt like I was missing out on any background information. The book does jump straight into the plot with the action starting within the first few pages, I loved this as it meant I got swept straight up with the book. I really liked the lead character Jordan. I found her to be an interesting character, whilst she is a tough intelligence offer she is still very feminine. I also found Ari to be an intriguing character, the interactions between the two of them worked really well for me. I enjoyed the plot a lot. I found that having both Jordan pursuing Jared and Ari pursuing Nicole worked well, their individual stories and motivations were interesting but neither one over powered the other. There are political issues covered within the plot, I found this worked well and at one point actually put the book down whilst I considered a viewpoint I'd not previously encountered. Overall I really enjoyed this book and I will definitely be reading Almost Home to find out more about Jordan and Jared. The story shows how strong a woman's love can be for the man who promised to marry her and how enduring that love can be. Jordan Weiss is on a mission to find the missing boyfriend who she thought was dead. She searches in Monico, an address she had through her boyfriend's files. She observes a woman entering the building where Jordan's boyfriend, Jared Short was said to be living. Later, we learn that the woman is Nicole Short. When Jordan questions Nicole, she is evasive and later flees. Jordan meets an Israeli named Aaron who is also following Nicole. He suggests that they join forces and when they do, they later form a romantic relationship while maintaining a professional mistrust. We learn of wine making in the area and that wine was used as a commodity in WWII. The Nazis wanted the best wine for their superior officers and politicians but the locals hid it from them. What happened to the wine becomes part of the mystery. Jordan Weiss is a strong character and a good match for Aaron but she continues her search for Jared. The author has written an interesting story and the historical presmise of the novel is riveting; even the minor characters are fully realized. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
What kind of man could fake his own death and then, for more than a decade, let his loved ones suffer? After such a betrayal, what woman would want him back? Meet erstwhile Cambridge University sweethearts Jared Short and Jordan Weiss, whose star-crossed odyssey continues in Jenoff's intriguing sequel to Almost Home. Following Jordan's discovery of Jared's apparent survival--and her own narrow escape from enemies still out to silence him--the plucky young diplomat chucks her State Department commission to seek closure. But instead of answers, what lies ahead on a perilous chase stretching from London to the Aegean are more conundrums. Along the way, Jordan encounters Ari Bruck, a seductive mystery man who might be a Mossad agent, and Nicole Short, an elegant blonde who apparently runs in the same circles as Jared.
