This book focuses on Magnus Maximus, a man who is obsessed with measuring everything he sees! After a lion accident, he ends up becoming the town's official measurer. He gets so caught up on measuring though that he forgets to truly notice and appreciate all that is around him. It's not until his glasses break and a little boy named Michael shows him that there's more to life than measuring such as playing at the beach and jumping into the waves. After this experience, Magnus picks up a new pair of glasses, but limits his measuring so he can enjoy life. This book would be great for primary readers.

It is a good book because it shows how a old man is deep into his measurement by stating his performance in his daily life. Also, it brings the readers a surprise at the end that the old man starts to enjoy his life after a-day working. It is a good signal. ( )

Magnus Maximus loves to measure things. Unusual things. Everything he possibly can. But he gets so caught up with measuring things about his food that he doesn't think about the taste of it. He doesn't enjoy the company of people around him or appreciate the beauty of the world around him. When he breaks his glasses and has to wait for a new pair to be made, he plays in the waves with a child and they sing and build a sandcastle together. When he does get his glasses back, he returns to the measuring he loves, but then instead of letting it consume him he stops to enjoy tea and the sunset. ( )

Summary: Magnus Maximus is an adorable story about an incredible measurer. It is all about a man who likes to measure everything, he loves to measure trunks and hands and lion teeth. Although when he is measuring everything he forgets to look at the beauty around him until he breaks his glasses and forces you too.
Uses. I would love to use this story to show that measuring is an exciting thing. I also would use it to reinforce that we need to embrace the beauty around us, especially in a world of technology.

Magnus loved the measure many extraordinary things that made him become the town’s measurer. One day he broke his glasses and finally remembered what life was all about. After he received his new glasses he did his usual counting but at a certain time he made sure to take his glasses off and remember what life is all about. The book is great to teach students new science vocabulary words and to teach students that everyone is different. The book stated a few time how Magnus didn’t measure ordinary things as most people do. This book can be done with so many subjects and is a great interdisciplinary book to start a lesson off. ( )
