A Texan's Luck is a story that I was buddy reading with Mina @ Mina Reads. I wasn't expecting much from this one, if I am being honest, and I am happy I kept my expectations lower on this one because this one most definitely disappointed. Now it's not a horrible book or anything, but there are factors that come into play that ruin the possible enjoyment that one could have from this one here. My biggest issue with this story is the heroine. She is very unlikeable and a bit toxic of a heroine in how she treats the hero. Many actions that she takes doesn't make sense. I was hoping that she would get better throughout the story, but to be honest, it just never worked that way for me. Even in the epilogue I was rolling my eyes at some of her actions. Now the hero while I had no issues with him, he also didn't make as much of an positive impression as the other male characters in the series have done so far. And I paid for this one in full price, as my library didn't carry it. Which makes it even more disappointing. I am eager for the finale of the series though and I am curious to see what the author does with that one there. ( )

I loved this story. The third and last woman to be auctioned off is Lacy who is married by proxy to the unknowing son of the man who pays for her. Walker Larson is in the army when his father informs him of his new bride and has no time for a wife. Lacy patiently waits for a few years but finally shows up to meet her husband. Things don't go well and Lacy returns to her home, determined to ignore Walker. When danger threatens her from the man whose supposed death started the whole auction, Lacy is forced to deal with Walker who's sent home to protect her.
I won't lie; these two have a rough beginning. But I love Lacy's spunk and loyalty to her friends. It took a while to warm up to Walker but I could sympathize with his frustration over his father's actions. It doesn't take long for Lacy to win him over despite his rigid manner from his military life. I really enjoyed the depictions of army life on the frontier. ( )

Lacy's story. Bride by proxy, after his father's death, Lacy decides to track down Captain Walker and make him a husband in fact. Except, he has no desire to be her husband, so he beds her once, then returns her on the stage to his hometown. Now 3 years later, Lacy, running his late father's printing shop, is shocked when Walker is ordered back to town to protect her from a killer. Although he doesn't want a wife, he doesn't want her dead either, and they happen to fall in love during his month's leave from the Army. ( )

Loved this book! I wasn't sure how Walker was going to get himself out of the doghouse, which he quite soundly put himself in during the first chapter, but I enjoyed watching the couple work out their differences. The plot moved quickly, but smoothly, and had me hooked cover to cover. Lacy is my favorite of the three lottery brides and had a lot of courage, even if she didn't think so. When she's threatened by an old enemy, Captain Walker returns to Cedar Springs to protect her, but neither of them are particularly happy about it. It was wonderful to see the characters from the first book in the series. Carter is an all time favorite hero of mine, as is Jacob Dalton. It was touching to see the emotion in Jacob and his concern for Nell. I can't wait to read his book! Having all these lovable characters come together to fight the common enemy was awesomeness! This was a really great read and I'll enjoy re-reading it for years to come! ( )

I liked the plot of this historical western romance but the ups and downs of the romance felt fake and after the prologue the action was slow although it did pick up about midway. Years after a bad marriage consummation army caption Walker shows up to protect his estranged wife Lacy who wants nothing to do with him. ( )

Captain Walker Larson gritted his teeth as Sergeant Peterson ushered in another of the prostitutes who came to complain about the evacuation order. As usual, the tall, lanky sergeant grinned at the woman as if he were guiding her into the front pew on Sunday morning.
