All Patrick Davis ever wanted to do was make movies, but after he gets his big break and sells his first screenplay, his life collapses. His Hollywood dreams crumble almost immediately, sending him back to his dreary day job, and he also finds his storybook marriage on the rocks. Then ominous DVDs start being delivered to him -- DVDs that show that someone is watching him and his wife, that the two of them are being stalked and recorded by cameras hidden around and within their house. Next the e-mails start, and someone offers to fix everything, to take the mess his life has become and make it all right. Patrick figures it's the offer of a lifetime. But Patrick couldn't be more wrong. With every step, he moves deeper and deeper into a web of intrigue that threatens everything he still has and values in this world. Before he knows it, he's in, and in deep -- and the only way out is to outwit and outplay his unseen opponents at their own game.… (altro)

a predictable light romance/mystery. Treflee's husband is a spy and is gone too much so she wants a divorce & is holding a secret. She & her cousin, who was supposed to get married, go on vacation to Hawaii & Tref's husband is undercover & they reunite as he tries to win her back.. Thin plot & same old same old catty woman, playing hard to get, & whining about the past. ( )

Weakest Hurwitz book I have read. Patrick Davis seems to have everything going for him when his screenplay is sold to become a movie, but the male lead alleges assault, and Patrick then becomes involved in a nightmare that revolves around him and the plaintiff. Like all Hurwitz thrillers, it is hard to tell the good guys from the bad, with twist after twist, but I did not find the characters believable or compelling. ( )

This is an excellent thriller. It is jam-packed with action and the premise is so tightly drawn that until it was fully revealed in the book, I had not figured out what was going on. Recommend for Harlan Coben and/or David Baldacci fans. ( )

From Amazon:

Patrick Davis is a man with troubles. First his Hollywood dreams crumble and then his storybook marriage hits a snag. Now, DVDs start being delivered to his house—DVDs which show that someone is watching him and his wife, that the two of them are being stalked and recorded by cameras hidden in their house. Then the e-mails start, and someone offers to fix everything, to take the mess his life has become and make it all right. Patrick figures it’s the offer of a lifetime. But Patrick couldn't be more wrong. With every step he falls deeper into a web of intrigue that threatens everything he values in this world.

My Thoughts:

The author is to be commended for telling a great story full of intrigue, betrayal, and high stakes without resorting to the usual graphic sensuality and violence. Not that I'm opposed to this...I actually enjoy it in a book...but it was just interesting that it was such an intriguing story without these elements. Utterly entertaining. Although there are slow parts of the book the end is quite worth while. The only thing that leaves the reader wondering about is why would anyone play this game to begin with? Oh well...it is fiction. ( )

Gregg Hurwitz is a master of the thriller. This book, much like his others that I've had the pleasure/terror of reading, is like a run away train. It's books like these that scare me more than anything in the horror genre. Here is Patrick Davis, normal everyday guy just living his life with all its ups and downs, and complete stranger(s) come in and take over his life. He, and his poor wife, find themselves completely out of control and at the mercy of whomever is playing puppet master. Not much more can be said without giving away any spoilers. But trust me when I say, don't ask "How can this get any worse?" Because it can, and it does. ( )
