The Night Watch world, comprised of humans and a host of paranormal creatures ranging from vampires and shapeshifters to demons and humans with supernatural powers, is original and intriguing. The focus in is on the latter two groups and unfortunately, despite hints interspersed throughout the storyline, there are not enough background details on the demons - their origins and their abilities.

The plot revolves around Jana Carter, an Ignitor or human with the ability to start and control fires, and the various groups seeking to apprehend her. As the prime suspect in a series of arson cases, Jana is the target of Zane Wynter, a Night Watch Bounty hunter, an overzealous FBI agent and a shady organization bent on destroying all supernatural “monsters”.

The story is fast paced and exciting but it can be difficult at times to keep track of who is who and what is what. Moreover, the writing has a drawn out feel to it because as soon as one thread is wrapped up another appears to take center stage. That said, the themes that emerge are compelling, especially the idea that nothing is as it seems and morality is not black and white as both humans and “Others" alike share a capacity for good and evil.

In terms of the romance, Zane is a sexy and powerful alpha with a dash of tortured hero as he fights to control the darkness within. Jana is smart, resourceful and kick-butt, and her chemistry with Zane is both sweet and spicy. The sex is sizzling but it is the emotional connection that builds between Jana and Zane as they grow to love and trust one another that makes their relationship so special.

This particular trilogy comes to an end but there is one more book set in the same world and knowing Cynthia Eden, it is bound to be action packed and smoking’ hot. ( )

As a high raking demon, the hero is searching for his bounty and finds the fire starter only to realize that she's a fragile looking innocent woman. But the heroine isn't so innocent and she's far from fragile. All her life, she's been used for her powers by a secret organization designed to kill dangerous paranormals but once she refuses to kill for them any longer they put her on the kill list. She meets the hero one night after she starts a fire to kill a dangerous paranormal and is immediately handcuffed but it soon becomes clear that they need each other more than anything. The hero feels a deep bond with the woman and when the FBI comes calling with an order to arrest her, he helps her flee. Together they go on they run until their investigation into the enemy takes them deep into the world of corruption. They are kidnapped and imprisoned and in the process the heroine is stripped of her powers. The heroine, though she's hard and ruthless, I really liked. She's able to make the hard decisions and maybe I've been watching too much of The Walking Dead but I really want the characters to end the bad guy because that's what needs to happen and she's like that. She killed her stepfather for beating her and a vampire in the alley for almost raping hero and she burns anyone who crosses her or 'her demon'. I got all mushy inside when I read about that because it's typically the male character who defends his woman and in this case is was both of them. You could also so tell that the heroine loved him from the jump. She ran away only to keep him safe and though she acted heartless, she risked everything to save him every time he got into trouble. It was such a nice balance between the two characters who each brought something to the table. The hero is deliciously strong and handsome and it takes until well into the book until you realize just how powerful he really is. When the secret society tried to contain him, you finally see just how much of a threat he is and you know what they say, power is sexy. Though he's adamant that he isn't a good guy, he's willing to do anything, including risking his job and his life to keep the heroine safe. He believes her about her innocence of all crimes even before he reads her mind and is constantly running into burning buildings to save people. Also, the bad guys were so truly bad and they seriously pissed me off at times and it was so satisfying to have them get their comeuppance. Having Beth shot through the heart after she went all power crazy was the highlight of my night, especially reading about how self-righteous that chick was. ( )

I look foward to anything Cynthia Eden writes.
She is one of few authors who write paranormal
stories I enjoy.

I love her shifters and demons.

This one did not disappoint.

Zane didn't dissapoint; he was all and more
I had been led to believe in the previous Night
Watch stories. But not with just his power.

A definite read if you love paranormals
and/or are a fan of Cynthis Eden.

That is all. don't want to spoil the fun.

4.5 stars! ( )

Eternal Flame is definitely my favorite book out of Cynthia Eden's Night Watch series. I couldn't wait to start reading Eternal Flame and get to know Zane. He was my favorite character in the first two books and still remains my favoriteZane is out on duty doing his normal routine. He is sent out to capture an Other only to find a woman in a burning building. At first he assumes she is a victim, but then slowly finds out she is actually the one he should be after. Jana Carter is known as an igniter; someone who can create fire with just one thought. Zane had no idea what he was truly up against. Jana is not your normal damsel in distress. She is fighter and a survivor. For a long time she had trouble accepting who she is and learning how to control her fire, but all that changes when Jana is used as a tool to kill and harm others. She decided that she will no longer be anyone’s puppet. To me Zane and Jana balanced each other out. They had so many things in common and were both a like in more than one way. What I liked the most was that Jana did not waste time complaining or running from everything. She stood her ground and made sure everyone knew she is not to be messed with. You throw fire her way; she throws it back even bigger. And as much as she tried to leave and forget Zane, she knew that wasn’t possible and stood by his side even though he is the one she should be running from. I also liked how Zane was so confident and fearless. Usually the tortured and angry soul that gets lifted by love is my favorite type of story, but Zane was definitely none of those. He knew what he was capable of, how far he can get and when he wanted something he went for it. Together Zane and Jana were a perfect team.Eternal Flame lacked nothing. Cynthia Eden really knows how to mix romance and action in one. It’s a fast paced read that will have you with butterflies in your stomach. I cannot wait to get my hands on Cynthia’s next book.www.goodchoicereading.com ( )
