It's Bishop Ryle. Need I say more? Seriously though, if you've read much of what Pastor Ryle has written, you know what I mean. He is one of the most simple, straightforward, encouraging and convicting preachers, teachers, pastors and writers the Lord has ever gifted the church with. His Expository Thoughts on the Gospels, Four Vol Set are worth their weight in gold both for sermon/lesson prep or just personal devotional reading. Bishop Ryle should be a name all Christians are familiar with. Regardless of your background, don't get hung up on his Anglican distinctives. I encourage you to read him often. Here is a 30,000ft overview of this little book which is actually taken from his larger work called Upper Room. Prefatory remarks: Preaching simply... 1. Isn't optional 2. Isn't easy 3. Isn't the same as condescension 4. Isn't vulgarity So how do we gain simplicity in preaching? A. Know your subject thoroughly B. Use simple words C. Use simple composition (write simply) D. Be direct (avoid 'we' when you mean 'I' and 'you') E. Use an appropriate amount of anecdotes and illustrations Very good book. Very instructive, simple and helpful. If you don't have an interest in the book, buy it and give it to your Pastor.
This is a new and updated edition by H&E Publishing with a helpful addition by Bennett W. Rogers. The early preaching ministry of J. C. Ryle, one of the most powerful preachers of the Victorian era, was an unmitigated disaster. He struggled to keep the attention of his rural congregation, and so he embarked on a series of failed "pulpit experiments." Through this process of trial and error, Ryle learned to "crucify" his style and win the attention of his parishioners. Once he found his voice, popularity soon followed. He filled his churches to suffocation and became a sought after platform speaker. He was repeatedly chosen to be the select preacher for Oxford and Cambridge, and continued to draw large crowds well into his eighties as the Bishop of Liverpool. In Simplicity in Preaching, J. C. Ryle presents the fruit of a lifelong quest to attain a simplicity in preaching for his fellow ministers. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
