Tracey McBride created the newsletter Frugal Times in 1993 and has since delighted thousands by elevating the skill of living frugally to an art form.nbsp;nbsp; Now Tracey's commonsense techniques for making "every day a feast" and her wisdom on how to cultivate abundance are gathered in one volume. Tracey shows us how to savor the intangible gifts we receive when we create a nurturing home, share luscious yet low-cost meals with family and friends, master our budgets, learn to combine style and thriftiness, and cultivate our dreams and imaginations without spending a cent. I have never read this book, dated 1997, but it had a lot of good frugal tips I had not considered or read elsewhere. I took good notes. This book is an excellent reference, and truly teaches you to have peace with less and not more. ( )

This book is dedicated to God, and was written for Michael, whose "soul doth move my soul with . . . infinite love." And our children, Clancy, Katie, and Rose, who provide the sweet music of home. It is for Papa, who, twenty-five years ago, found my childish poetry and said, "You have a gift." And Mother who ignited my passion for words, reading, and books. It is a monument to Emily Heckman, my superb editor, and, now friend, without whom Frugal Luxuries would not exist, And to my agent, Sandra Dijkstra, who offered me the chance to control my destiny.

[Prelude] The French writer Marcel Proust once noted that each author plays his or her own tune, distinct from that of any other--the soul of the writer will always reveal itself through the written word.
It is an ancient art.

[Prelude] Frugal Luxuries may not be a work of art in itself, but it aspires to nudge you toward exploring your own circumstances and extracting the dormant art concealed within your own life.
I store these intangible fragments in the jewel box of my spirit, where they serve as a secret, inexhaustible source of happiness. They are familiar treasure that can be recycled forever.
