This story takes you through the life of 3 individuals: Markos Stavros, his younger brother Dino, and a girl both brothers will come to love, Sofia. You will start in Greece, find yourself in Chicago, in the battlefields of Europe during WWII, and back where it all began, in Greece. The struggles were real for these three who had to flee their homeland, and the author did a great job of taking them all to a place spiritually that they needed to go and surrender themselves to a God who cares.

Markos Stavros tries so hard to care for his brother Dino and the girl he loves, Sofia. But when they flee to America things don't go as expected and Markos can't keep his promise to never leave them. Then you follow Dino's life several years later, making something of himself, but living a lie. Both men love Sofia; Markos always has, and Dino will eventually when he meets up with Sofia again.

Sofia is a woman now, who has had her heart broken twice…by two very different brothers. Now she finds herself back in Greece, caring for her infant and surviving the German occupation by giving herself to a German officer. There is news of a British invasion and Sofia is asked to help. But when she discovers who has landed on the island to help with the invasion, she realizes her heart won't be able to love this man again and then lose him. As one reviewer stated: " . . the Sons of Thunder will discover betrayal, sacrifice and finally redemption".

A great ending to this story also. I was captivated by the story line and by the places it took you, and the history you experienced. This was a story with very little joy and lots of sorrow, but it was also a story of redemption and how the Lord worked in each of these people's lives. A story that stuck with me even after I finished it. ( )

This would be a four-star for me if it weren't so similar to the film Pearl Harbor. ( )

When I saw the cover of this book, I was intrigued enough to read the synopsis. I knew from that it would be a decent story, but I had no idea the emotions it would stir in me.
When a book can bring a tear to your eye, it must be great! The author must be conveying the story in a way that you feel it and connect with it. I really did with this book.
I sincerely hope the author considers a second book. I would love to know what happened to the characters, after the war.
This is definitely on my recommendation list! ( )
