Not my favorite Holt book but one filled with surprises. Humorous science fiction isn't everyone's cup of tea and I find Tom's outlandish ideas often get compromised by other elements. Regardless I love his creativity and wacky mind and continue to explore his other titles. ( )

Tom Holt is an author that is hit or miss, usually miss (for me). His books a blend of Terry Pratchett, Christopher Moore, and Douglas Adams, but without the deeper message. This book is no exception.

Its a fairly standard, throw random stuff on the wall and see what sticks. There is a plot, its meandering, doesn't make a lot of sense. A few things were fairly predictable.

However, this book isn't bad. It suits a certain mood, one where a reader doesn't want to think too hard and just be entertained. So, it has its place and it is well written - just not very deep. ( )

Of all the author's [a:Tom Holt|9766|Tom Holt|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1246502762p2/9766.jpg] books that I've read so far, this is my favorite. In some ways it felt derivative of both Doug Adams', Hitchhiker series and the cult movie "Dark Star", but even if everything isn't completely original, it is still enjoyable and worth the read. ( )

Apparently I stopped Holt one book too soon as he has FINALLY written a different plot. ( )
