When the first bombs first fell on her hometown of Berlin, the author was only five-years-old. She describes in detail what it was like as a child of very modest means to live in Hitler's Germany during the War. Her 37 year old father was drafted and became a Russian prisoner. Her mother fled with her two children to the village of Straupitz in 1943. Overrun by the Russians, they barely managed to return to West Berlin in November 1946. There they faced three years of terrible winters, starvation and the Berlin Blockade. This is an account of war through the eyes of a little girl and the equally difficult years following. The account ends in 1954 when the author immigrates to the United States. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
