When the lights go down and nighttime falls, where does the white cat go? Where does the monkey go? What about the camel, the stray dog, the seagull, and the brown bear? And what about the children?

This nighttime read-along picture book, perfect for a bedtime story, will delight young readers with it colored pencil-drawn illustrations and the repetitive, non-prose text that encourages them to read along as the story unfolds. It’s the perfect sleepy-time tale.

This book discusses where everybody goes when it gets dark out and night comes; home.

Where do the animals go when evening falls and it is time to sleep?

After reading this book I had mixed feelings about it. I liked how the story followed a pattern, it named an animal, asked where it went when night came, and then said it was heading home. This is great for the reader to help learn sequencing and repetition. The story also pushes the reader to think more deeply about what all of these characters have in common. How each night they have somewhere to be, and each night they go to sleep. By the end of the story, they are all cuddled up in bed with the young child. They were his stuffed animals all along. I did not like that the main idea was not prevalent in the text. This story would not be a good one to use when teaching on main ideas in a classroom.

Summary: "Where does the Brown Bear Go?" tells the story of what animals do at nighttime. The book asks the question of where do many animals such as monkey, bear, seagull, camel, and cat go at night. In the end, the book tells the readers that all the animals go home at the end of the day.

Review: The central message of this book is to explore where all animals go at night. I like how the book is very repetitive which will be good for young readers. For example, the book says "When shadows fall across the dune, where does the camel go, honey? Where does the camel go? When the junkyard is lit by the light of the moon, where does the stray dog go, honey? Where does the stray do go? Some words may change but the concept is the same and a child can guess what would be said next. Also, I liked how at the end of the story the author connects all the animals together and says "and everyone is home" ( )
