As with the first two novels of this series, [a:Maggie Stiefvater|1330292|Maggie Stiefvater|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1268241579p2/1330292.jpg]'s lyrical prose captivated me. I loved this book almost as much as I did the first two. That said, I only gave it four stars as it fell short as the final in a series. Too much was left hanging and unresolved for it to satisfy. Had this been the third of more, I would have given it five. ( )

FROM GOODREADS: For Grace, Sam, and Cole, the story continues - only now, the stakes are even higher than before. Wolves are being hunted. Lives are being threatened. It's becoming harder and harder to hold on to one another. In the conclusion to Maggie Stiefvater's bestselling, breathtaking trilogy, love is the question - and the answer. ( )

I thought this was a good end to the series. Most things were resolved in a way that made sense and I liked where it went, and that it left things rather open as to what would happen in the future. The most immediate problems were solved, but not all of them.

The translation felt a bit rushed though. A lot of small mistakes that should've been caught before it being sent to print, like spelling it Canada instead of Kanada, as is the Swedish word.

So let's talk about wolves! The book ends with Stiefvater mentioning how much research she did on wolf behaviour for the book and how pack dynamics are interesting ... and completely disregards that wolves don't exactly live in packs. The term "family groups" is more accurate, since that's how wild wolves live. A mom, a dad, and all their offspring live together, until the kids are old enough to leave and start families of their own. Wolves rarely accept other wolves into their lives and don't like strangers at all.

BUT, what Stiefvater has written actually makes sense when you consider ... that these wolves are not actually living in a family group. They are a bunch of strangers (essentially) who are forced together, much like captive wolves are, and that's where we usually see those alpha/beta/omega dynamics people love so much about wolves. It actually makes perfect sense for the werewolves in these books to be acting more like captive wolves than wild ones, since they aren't a family group formed naturally, but rather a bunch of strangers forced together without any say in the matter.

However it does annoy me that Stiefvater didn't mention this at all. It may be accurate behaviour for wolves who are not family, but usually wolves live in families, so ...

Here's an interesting link for anyone who wanna fight me on this (don't fight me on this, I am very tired and won't be able to defend myself): http://io9.gizmodo.com/why-everything-you-know-about-wolf-packs-is-wrong-5027546... ( )

I enjoyed this a hell of a lot more than I did [b:Linger|6654313|Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2)|Maggie Stiefvater|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1292482391s/6654313.jpg|6848948] and not quite as much as I did [b:Shiver|6068551|Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1)|Maggie Stiefvater|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328839272s/6068551.jpg|6244926] but I'm rating it up to 4 because I liked the uncertainty of the ending.

I loathed the intrusion of Cole and Isabel's p.o.v.'s in [b:Linger|6654313|Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2)|Maggie Stiefvater|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1292482391s/6654313.jpg|6848948] but am sort of glad they were in this one? Because, seriously, Sam was being so wishy-washy and neither he nor Grace do very much of anything so that while I found their scenes emotionally poignant, I wanted way more problem-solving from the 2 of them. And I am majorly disappointed in the 11th hour random savior. seriously, semi-random cop manages to figure out the wolf secret and wants to help everybody and just so happens to own a failed resort that is perfect for the wolves to move to? Nuh uh.

The series has an interesting take on werewolves but I think I'd have liked more science and less kissing. Which is weird sentence for me to be writing.
