Janet Begay has a very mixed heritage — a human father and a mother from Beneath. This gives her both Earth and Beneath powers. She returns to Magellan to finally come to terms to this conflict within herself. It will take the efforts of all the friends she has made to defeat her evil mother. Looking forward to the next book. A very fluffy "urban fantasy" read. Really it should fall under Paranormal Romance. It's fairly well plot driven, but a lot of the action and angst revolves around relationships, particularly Mick and Janet. Mick as the main male character has definitely been done before - all alpha male, he-who-his-most-likely-to-kick-your-ass, and of course look good doing it, but if you're prepared for or accepting of PNR it's a fun, light read. Janet is the typical PNR female, but she actually has more back bone then most, even if she does go back to the male in her life without to much trouble and the usual gratuitous sex. Maya was really the stand out character to me. She's actually non-magical, but she's got lots of bite. SPOILERS: pulling a gun on the main character, hiding a body?! I want more main characters like that. And I actually preferred John Nash to Mick, but that's neither here nor there. I have mixed feelings about this book, don't get me wrong I enjoyed it - I stayed up til 2 am reading it, which is why it deserves 4 stars. But some things niggled. It tended to be a bit too descriptive in some places: the protagonist was uber-powerful which seemed too easy, and her relationship with her boyfriend didn't seem healthy to me, even though I liked him. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Half-Navajo Janet Begay possesses extraordinary power that is tied to the storms that waft across the desert. The only person who can control her when she's caught in the storm's evocative power is Mick, a dark-haired, blue-eyed biker Janet can't seem to touch with her powers. He can wield fire and not get burned, and Janet's never sure where he goes when they're not together.Together she and Mick investigate mysterious disappearances, which Janet fears are tied to her mother's people, the mythical gods from beneath the earth. They are helped along the way by Coyote and Crow, but these shapeshifting gods have their own agendas. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

The cop and his entire demeanour is total bs.
This is generally the biggest sin of this book. Plot convenience.
Towards the end, the smut gets out of hand and started to just annoy me especially because most of it was just constant repetition almost word for word of earlier scenes.
The finale makes no sense whatsoever or is at least not explained in the least (and a lot of explanation would be necessary to explain this mess).
Lots of facts are made up as they are needed in general and there is almost no prescient setup.
All in all, subpar in all disciplines. ( )
