I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one was a bit of a letdown. I found it very boring at the beginning - it took forever for anything at all to happen. When the mystery finally got going, I was intrigued, but then the whole thing fell a bit flat again. Bummer. Still, I like the illustrations and the diary format. Maybe the third one will be better. This is the second novel for the character who started life as a T-shirt design. It is more conventionally structured than the first book where the reader and Emily are dropped in at the deep end from page 1. A comparatively slow build-up leads to a big problem for Emily; herself. Yep, the reader is faced with a variation of that terrible cliche, the Evil Twin! This being Emily, though, the fun is as much in the Strangeness as anything and Evil Emily is still Strange... Perhaps not as much fun as my first encounter with Emily, in The Lost Days, where amnesia abounds and I knew as little about Emily as she did, partly because I am now familiar with the character and the design ethos, but still very worthwhile. I found Emily at a time in high school when I really needed her. And even today at 26yo she still feels like a huge part of me. I was able to accept myself and all my weirdness because she showed me it was ok to be different. I love all of these books! I recommend them to anyone feeling left out ,weird, or like they don't belong. Fun in a snarky, dark kind of way. Diary format does not really allow you to experience the story, but I think the authors did as well as they could within that format. It's a little hard to know what to think about a character like Emily who's supposed to be a hero and anti-hero at the same time, but I'm sure there are a lot of outsiders who will identify with the mad scientist/painter/skateboarder. Personally, I found the cats more sympathetic than Emily. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Once again, I am surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. No reason for that really, I just find it interesting that I have enjoyed ETS as much as I have.
Another strange, yet good story in the Emily the Strange world (see what I did there?? *nudges with elbow* Eh? Eh?). I found myself giggling out loud quite a lot with this book. Could be that there was more humorous content this time around or it could be that I’ve grown accustomed to Emily and how she navigates the world in her peculiar way. I want to say it’s the former, but I suspect it’s actually a combination of both. Regardless, I loved it.
Written in epistolary style again, we get to enjoy the candid journal entries of Emily as she deals with her latest scheme and subsequent mishap. As in the first book there are doodles, pictures, and such adorning the pages of the book that make reading it even more fun. I really like how well developed our protagonist’s (antagonist’s?) character is. She has very specific interests and proclivities and it makes her memorable and surprisingly, lovable. I am not a cat person myself, but I adore that Emily is. Her relationship with her cats is fun to read about, especially in this book (spoiler free, so I’m not saying why – but you can always contact me if you want to hear it from me). Although I found myself momentarily frustrated with the OtherMe situation, I have to admit, it certainly provided a sufficient amount of conflict to keep me wanting to see how the issue was resolved. I saw it coming, but I really liked the concept (magic system?) behind how Emily managed to duplicate herself – I wont say more in order to avoid spoiling it for anyone, but it was fun seeing how the two Emily’s moved through this story.
For a change of pace, an easy read, a fun read; I definitely recommend stepping into the world of Emily the Strange! ( )
