TO GOD BE THE GLORY: A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF BISHOP FREDERICK CALHOUN JAMES tells the story of a black man born in a small town of prosperity in South Carolina who wanted to be a successful business person but ended being a preacher, educator, a civil rights leader, financier, & a Bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. His ministry as a bishop took him to Southern Africa, to assist with the fight against Apartheid & also befriended King Moshoeshoe II of Lesotho, to Arkansas where he became a friend with President Bill Clinton, to South Carolina where he built a shopping center & revived the historically Black College, Allen University to be accredited to the Ecumenical Office where he worked with other Denominations & lastly the Second District which included: District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina & Virginia where he was able to bring reconciliation within the District. He was invited to join the official United States of America Delegation to attend the inauguration of President Nelson Mandela in South Africa. He is retiring in July 1996. The reader will be inspired by this story of a black man born from a place not known by & ended up walking with Kings & Presidents but never lost touch of the common man or woman.
