Getting a book successfully published is as much about talent and creative drive as it is a matter of determination and business practice. Luckily for would-be authors, The Call of the Writer's Craft delivers the how-to on both the creativity and the business. Lecturer and writing retreat leader Tom Bird introduces readers to their Divine Author Within, and guides them through the process of listening to this inner muse. They will learn how to tap into their "creative connected mind" and relax their "logical critical mind" so they will be able to write the book they've always wanted to--in just two drafts! Once the book is complete, writers learn how to sell their book. Bird instructs his readers how to successfully navigate the publishing world so that they can make the right choices for their work. The Call of the Writer's Craft : literary catharsis--with a cash return. AUTHOR: Tom Bird is a bestselling writer and the guru behind The Tom Bird Method. Tom remains committed to sharing his method with writers all across the globe. He has made over 3,000 lecture appearances before more than 50,000 students at over 110 different campuses. Tom also hosts intensive retreats, including one on book publicity and promotion. The Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, Chicago Sun Times, Boston Globe and Herald, and New York Times have all featured articles about Tom or his work.… (altro)

I got this as part of a humble bundle that ultimately cost me less than a single dollar per book... this one wasn’t worth the couple of cents it cost me. If you’re interested in being condescended to by a man drowning in overly flowery prose, by all means read this book. Perhaps his strategy works for some, but the idea that his way is the only way to success and anything else you’ve ever tried is wrong is ultimately so offensive that it’s hard to take anything he says seriously. Somehow Tom Bird manages to thread the line between being too concrete in how to write but not saying very much at all leading to the idea that you’re reading a book on writing from a man who only knows how to write in theory and has never actually written any of these so called divinely inspired novels he talks about.

This will be the one and only review I have ever written on here or, in fact, anywhere else but this book offended me on so many levels that even my friends and family could not contain the rants within me. If you can get this book for free or as part of a bundle of superior works, then... I’d still reccomend you give it a pass. This man does not have all the answers. If his method works for you, more power to you, but if you’re looking for your own voice, I’d search for it elsewhere.

My only hope is that my indignance and offense will drive me to continue my novel in the best ways that I know how.... If only to spite him. ( )
