Though not her most popular novel, Her Mother's Hope is still compelling and heartfelt. The characters are true to life, the story is dramatic, and the writing is beautiful. This is a long book, but the content is also appropriate for younger readers for whom [b:Redeeming Love|11422|Redeeming Love|Francine Rivers|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1550053167l/11422._SX50_.jpg|820210] and other books by this author may not be appropriate. Her Mother's Hope is great for a rainy day or a long car ride, and I would also recommend it to readers of historical fiction, Christian fiction, and/or women's fiction. Marta's Legacy Duology: An epic family saga spanning decades, the Marta’s Legacy duology follows four generations of women as they grow up and find their place in the world, exploring the acts of love and sacrifice that are made by mothers for their daughters. Marta grows up in Switzerland with a demanding father and a mother who coddles her younger sister. Forced to leave school and find work at age 10, Marta does not let anything stand in her way of reaching her ambitions – not even family tragedy. Eventually, Marta finds her way to Canada and into the arms of her husband, Niclas. When her own daughter is born, Marta is determined to raise a child with enough backbone to stand up for herself, but all Hildemara knows is that her mother doesn’t love her as much as her other children. As each subsequent generation grows up in the shadow of past hurts and misunderstandings, the rifts between family members continue to widen – until someone finally has the courage to bring them all together again before it’s too late to say what needs to be said. Expanding on the same themes introduced in Leota’s Garden, and inspired by her own family history, Francine Rivers delves deeper into the individual experiences, personality differences, and cultural influences that can shape a person and their relationships over time. It’s a fascinating saga, painful at times, but with much-needed healing and reconciliation at the end! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

HTML:Book one in the bestselling series that has captivated millions of readers around the world! A New York Times, USA Today, and Publisher's Weekly bestseller. "Her Mother's Hope has all the meaty elements of a blockbuster." ??Denver Post The first in a two-book family saga by the beloved author of Redeeming Love and The Masterpiece, Her Mother's Hope is a rich, moving epic about faith and dreams, heartache and disappointment, and the legacy of love passed down through four generations in one family. Near the turn of the twentieth century, fiery Marta Schneider leaves Switzerland for a better life, determined to fulfill her mother's hope. Her formative journey takes her through Europe and eventually to Canada, where she meets handsome Niclas Waltert. But nothing has prepared her for the sacrifices she must make for marriage and motherhood as she travels to the Canadian wilderness and then to the dusty Central Valley of California to raise her family. Marta's hope is to give her children a better life, but experience has taught her that only the strong survive. Her tough love is often misunderstood, especially by her oldest daughter, Hildemara Rose, who craves her mother's acceptance. Amid the drama of World War II, Hildie falls in love and begins a family of her own. But unexpected and tragic events force mother and daughter to face their own shortcomings and the ever-widening chasm that threatens to separate them forever. "Emotionally rich. . . . As her compelling characters seek to do what they feel their faith demands, Rivers sets their resonant struggles against dusty streets, windswept Canadian plains, and California vineyards in vivid scenes readers will not soon forget." ??Booklist, starred review "Writers like Rivers are why people buy Christian fiction: it's dramatic, engaging . . . [and] this well-told tale will have readers eagerly awaiting the story's resolution." ??Publishers We Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

There was a lot to enjoy in this story. I was able to relate to both Marta and Hildemara, and loved following along their life journeys. This could easily have been a fairly boring read: “They did this, then they did that…” but it wasn’t, and I’m so glad! I felt like I was there with the characters, and that was great!
I did struggle with some elements of the story. I felt like intimacy in marriage was mentioned way more often than necessary, and while it was generally only vaguely referred to, it was still more than I’m comfortable with. I was also hoping this would have a stronger Christian theme than it had, in the end—neither character seemed to have a living relationship with Jesus, until maybe in the last few chapters.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It deals with some very difficult themes, but it’s a well-written, gripping novel, and I’m looking forward to reading the sequel eventually. ( )
