This book is about a young penguin named Pip who is afraid to learn how to swim. She believes that she is supposed to fly not swim. Pip goes on a walk asking all kinds of birds to teach her how to fly. Each one sings her a song that tells Pip how to fly. After each time trying to fly she ends up in the water where her couch saves her and teaches her how to swim. It was in that moment when Pip realized that when she swims it is like she is flying just under water.
This is a good fantasy book because it teaches kids that even though life is challenging and that life is not easy or spelled out that if you just trust in God and trust in your parents that everything will work out. This books tells children that persevering is something that pays off in the end, and the book does it by showing how Pip was able to persevere and ended up learning how to swim. This is also a good Fantasy because the author is giving human characteristics to a penguin named Pip. In the story Pip and the other penguins and other animals are talking, and that does not happen in real life.

Little Pip learns to swim. He starts out wanting to fly and even goes so far as to visit other species of bird to get advice. In the end, he falls into the water and kind of is forced into learning to swim and learning to appreciate his tremendous ability as a swimmer. Good story, especially if you read the first Little Pip book and are continuing the series. ( )
