I bought this book based on the premise and the good reviews. I thought it had a lot of potential, but I never found the main character Sophie likeable and much of the book was boring. ( )

Though this book had a promising start, I lost interest rather quickly in both the characters and the plot. The idea that people could be cold-blooded was rather interesting, as was the idea of going through life at a different pace. But, when all was said and done, THIS BOOK WASN'T ABOUT THOSE THINGS--it was mostly about the two main characters talking about how they are in love and how Sophie keeps being reincarnated (or something?) and how they can't be apart a la Edward and Bella but I really felt nothing between them. One of my biggest pet peeves is when two characters tell each other "I love you" too early in their relationship and in the story. I don't care if they are "an old soul" or whatever lame excuse an author tries to make up.

And a large portion of the book is dedicated to building up suspense about who is stealing stuff from the labs about Wes' cold-blooded serum. Now listen here, goodreads friends, Wes has been alive since 1916. He's been out and about for almost a century now interacting with people. It would make perfect sense for the person stealing the *&^% in the labs to be someone that interacted with Wes. But no, instead it is the ex-boyfriend of one of Sophie's reincarnations who got pissed because Wes broke his hand THIRTY YEARS AGO and then was so pissed about that (and a few other things) that he starts taking alligator blood in the army and then stealing from Wes' research labs to make himself immortal. I felt like this was that scene in Role Models where Martin tells a ghost story and then the punchline goes, "and holding the severed head of the
pediatrician's mother in his hand, was Philip, the pizza delivery boy from when they ordered pizza at the beginning of the story!" This ending was just blech. But the author set it up for a second forthcoming book. I don't think I'll be reading it...

This book was recommended to me by the wonder Sophie from MundieMoms and again I will say she never let's me down! This book is a great read. The story is very easy to follow and the characters are very easy to love. Wes and Sophie are amazing together and I could not help but love their relationship from the very beginning. They are perfect for each other. From reading the back cover of the book you find out that Wes is some what immortal and the only one of his kind. So I was really excited to find out exactly how and why Wes is Immortal. Well I found out that I was off by a lot. Shelena Shorts gives you a different type of story & view on being immortal. She explains it so well that it is easy to understand and follow. I've read some stories where the author would explain things and I still would not understand it. I like the way Shelena writes and with the way The Pace ended, I can not wait for part two! A Great READ! http://goodchoicereading.blogspot.com ( )

It was a very interesting teen fantasy book. Somewhat different than all of those other generic fantasy books about vampires and werewolves but still following the consistent plot line that all of them follow. Despite the pretty much predictable plot line it was still entertaining, and I quite enjoyed it. Now to pick up the second book, the broken lake! ( )

The Pace is a tale of love, mystery and the impossible becoming possible. It is well paced with developed, likable characters.
Sophie is a fairly level headed, smart character. I love that her mother is involved in her life, and that she takes direction and advice from her. She is wise with her trust, but once placed she is a loyal character. Though emotional, she does look at things objectively instead of blindly accepting or ignoring.
Wes is a mysterious, charming, but ultimately vulnerable guy, with awesome cars and lots of money. He is generous though, and kind. Their relationship begins as friends and progresses, which I like. Though Sophie had feelings at once, she did take things slow; and it was more attraction and wonder at the mystery that drew her in and then she fell more when she actually got to know him.
Shelena's take on immortality is a very unique one and it had me wondering what was going on with him until the mystery unfolded bit by bit. I also enjoyed the theme of undying love and where it goes with that (you will understand when you read, and I don't want to spoil anything).
I cannot wait to get the next book because I am not quite satisfied with the ending, but at least I do know that questions will be answered and plot resolved very soon.
The Pace was an enjoyable read and I read through it quickly. I would recommend giving it a go!
