Was fun hearing authors I already knew discussing their characters, and I discovered so many authors who weren't on my radar. First heard of Ken Bruen and Jack Taylor here and have since read everything I've been able to find. ( ) This book for me was a introduction for me to some writers I have not read. It was good to get some insight into the creative process and fun to compare. Many of the writers are boomers like me so the dream of getting published someday still lives. This book underscored for me that I will never be able to read all the books I would like to read in my lifetime. This is a blow to the kid who wanted to read every book in the library. I started this book being guilty that I was not familiar with a lot of this authors, but I finished the book with renewed respect for the writing process and the sacrifices writers make for their art. I walk away with a list of books and authors I want to read, which is all any editor wants. Like any group of creative people each author's approach was different and some were more successful than others, but overall it was interesting. Three stars.
[Penzler] lined up some of the most famous mystery novelists around and asked them for 10-page riffs about their best-known characters. Those essays have been collected in “The Lineup,” an exciting omnibus volume that has widespread appeal and adds up to much, much more than the sum of its parts. Premi e riconoscimenti
