In Through Wolf's Eyes, Jane Lindskold introduced Firekeeper, the young girl raised by intelligent, language-using wolves. Abducted back into human society, Firekeeper found that, in the world of deadly human political intrigues, her training as a pack animal served her well. Later, in Wolf Captured, Firekeeper and her lupine companion Blind Seer found themselves kidnapped and dragged overseas, to the unfamiliar land of Liglimon, where humans have a different relationship to intelligent animals. Now, still in Liglimon, Firekeeper and Blind Seer respond to a request for assistance from Truth, the soothsayer-jaguar. Then, while helping Truth, Firekeeper and her companion come across evidence of elaborate investigations into kinds of ancient magics taboo in Liglimoshti culture. It appears more people in Liglimon are willing to flout this taboo than anyone cares to admit, and Firekeeper and Blind Seer decide their duty is to find out more. But Truth knows more than she's telling. She can see and trace future timelines for particular individuals, which in the past has led her into madness. Since then, the Voice that guided her out of that madness has continued to speak to her, and it's not her friend. Eventually Truth realizes that her Voice may well be a person the Liglimoshti call "The Meddler" -- a dangerous trickster figure. But Truth doesn't own up to this until far too late... Compellingly told, rich with real people and real animals, WOLF HUNTING is the latest and strongest in an increasingly and rewarding sequence of fantasy epics.… (altro)

Although I really enjoyed the first Firekeeper book, and didn't dislike the second, their appeal for me has gone downhill since. ( )

well, Lindskold finally lost me here. Every book seems to be a new place, new people, new adventures. But, it feels like Lindskold has no imagination for the places she has already explored and so is forced to make up more and more new lands to have her stories in.

And the fact that Firekeeper and the wolf are practically mated, without the mating, is just pushing the beastiality line and really isn't appropriate.

Goodbye Jane, your first Wolf book was great, I shall remember you by that one, and not the rest. ( )

Following Truth, the group, now supplemented by one of the beast-souled; accesses the Old World and finds it dominated by the Once and Twice dead who keep beasts in thrall. They must survive a horrendous disease or spell which changes some of them significantly. Tedious at times, but worth the slog. ( )

Another great book in the series. ( )

The continuing saga of a girl, almost a woman now, who runs with wolves. In our last installment, our heroine was kidnapped and taken to far Southern lands. We pick up the story with her running with the Wise Wolves in that land, forming a pack with Blind Seer, composed of both wolves and the beast-souled. Truth, the insane Wise Jaguar, leads them to the remains of a house-that-is-not-a-house. And that starts her on a quest, with an assortment of Wise Animals, one of the Beast-souled, friend Darien Carter, and former kidnapper Harjeedian. The quest takes them through many adventures, and leaves them further from home than when they started, with some things answered, and other mysteries yet to solve in the next book. This volume reads very smoothly, perhaps because it lacks the detailed politics, religion, and detailing of familial relationships that were such a feature of the early books of the series. Derian has been presented throughout the series as an excellent horseman, and becomes even more so in this book. But Firekeeper is, as always, a wild card, and it is fascinating to watch the world unfurl before her. This volume is something of a "middle-book-of-a-trilogy" sort. Stuff happens, plot advances, but it is clearly not complete yet.
Recommended.
