I ma an avid listener to "The Diane Rehm Show" so it's a little odd that I only read her memoir now, ten years after it was first published. Interesting to read about her background and the forces that shaped her, her entry into broadcasting and the condition that almost cost her her career. ( ) As a casual listener of The Diane Rehm Show, I had always assumed her history was similar to that of other broadcasters. This book tells of how unique her career--and life--have been. Born into a household full of tension and corporal punishment, coerced into an early and unhappy marriage and never receiving a formal education past high school, Rehm's success in radio was quite amazing. Add to that the vocal problems she became plagued with just as her career was taking off, she has overcome many hardships to get where she is. Her account of her life from childhood through national syndication is always compelling. She gives equal weight to all the experiences in her life, regardless of her level of fame at the time and this careful consideration of her past makes for a interesting look into the life and mind of woman who so often is invited into our homes every day. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
In "Finding My Voice," nationally acclaimed public radio host Diane Rehm tells the story of her remarkable life - a story in three acts. First, her childhood in a traditional, Christian-Arab household dominated by her psychologically abusive and beautiful mother whose influence on her intelligent young daughter was substantial. Then, in her thirties she found her career, as the host of her own radio talk show, which 20 years later has become one of the most influential voices on radio today. Finally, she delves into her recent, frightening battle with the rare neurological disorder, spasmodic dysphonia (SD) that almost cost her all that she had gained in life.
