For one hundred and fifty years it marked the demarcation line and battle-ground between the Anglo-Saxons and the French as their ago-old rivalry spilled over into the New World. During the Seventeenth Century it was the scene of a savage civil war between two factions of the French. Then after French power in the region had waned, and after the American Revolution, New Brunswick became the front line between the Anglo-Saxons who had rebelled against the Crown and those who had remained loyal.
